History of the Town of Olive: 1823-1973. Olive[?], New York, 1973 and Melissa McHugh's exhibit, "A Town Shaped by Water: 200 Years of Olive History" at the Olive Free Library. An article in the Hudson Valley 1 blog (Klugiewicz, Janet. “Frog Jumping Contest Is a Treasured Tradition in This Ulster County Town.” Hudson Valley One (blog), September 14, 2022. https://hudsonvalleyone.com/2022/09/14/frog-jump-highlights-olive-day/.) does claim that it is unknown if the first Olive Day took place in 1971 or 1972, however it is unclear where the author got this information and it is generally accepted that Olive Day started as this the 1973 event.

Hudson River Valley Heritage Historical Newspapers. https://news.hrvh.org/veridian/?a=d&d=jaaggddf19580827-01.2.16. A document (Sorbellini, Gene. “Town of Olive Summer Day Camp Information Booklet,” 2022. https://townofolive.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/summer-camp-info.pdf.) produced in 2022 by the Olive Recreation department states that the program started in 1955, a date asserted by Gene Sorbellini during a brief conversation. Current research suggests this may have stemmed from some confusion regarding the start date of the Olive Youth Commission rather than the Olive Summer Day Camp program as the article cited above specifically states that the program is wrapping up its first year.
